Abstract
In situations where appliances or products break down, users often use online resources, e.g., a search engine, to locate information about replacement parts or products. This disclosure describes techniques to provide such information of equivalent and compatible replacement products based on an image of the original product. The image can be obtained by the user by using a camera (e.g., with a 3D sensor) on a user device such as a smartphone or other device. A list of equivalent products is generated taking into consideration size and other specifications inferred from analyzing the image and provided to the user. Provision of such information eliminates the need for the user to iterate search queries that are imperfect descriptions of the information need of the user, allowing for an improved user experience and enhanced convenience.
