Abstract
A route generation system can be used to generate an alternative route in a mapping application user interface (UI) based on a user input. The route generation system presents one or more routes, in a mapping application UI, between a first location and a second location. The system receives the user input that identifies a path between the first location and the second location. The system then generates the alternative route based on the user input between the first location and the second location. The alternative route is presented to the user in the mapping application UI.
